Hi everyone! I’m Icy, a Master’s student at Georgia Tech specializing in cybersecurity policy.
Looking back on my year-long internship in the public sector, I’ve gained a great deal of practical experience. However, as I prepare to enter the job market, I’m evaluating whether a formal certification is necessary to bridge the gap between my policy background and the technical requirements of the field.
I’m recently thinking about getting the CySA+ certification, but I’d love to hear from hiring managers and senior professionals: is this the right investment for someone landing their first full-time role?
My career path is still flexible, and I’m also applying to positions ranging from Cybersecurity Analyst to GRC, Risk, and Security Consulting. I want to ensure my roadmap aligns with what industry leaders actually look for in emerging talent. Does a cert like CySA+ move the needle for a versatile candidate, or should I focus elsewhere?
I appreciate any insights or advice you can share!
