Why Everyone Should Turn On MFA

A strong password is important, but a password alone is not enough.

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security by requiring two or more forms of verification before access is granted.

For example:

🔑 Something you know: Password or PIN

📱 Something you have: Authenticator app, phone, or security key

👤 Something you are: Fingerprint or facial recognition

Why is MFA important?

• Passwords can be stolen through phishing, data breaches, malware, and credential stuffing.

• MFA makes a stolen password less useful because the attacker still needs the additional authentication factor.

• It helps protect important accounts such as email, banking, social media, cloud platforms, GitHub, and work systems.

• For organizations, MFA is important for administrator accounts, VPNs, cloud environments, remote access, and other privileged systems.

Not all MFA methods provide the same level of protection. Where possible, use phishing-resistant options such as passkeys or security keys. Authenticator apps are also a strong option. SMS-based MFA is still better than having no MFA.

Security is not only about using a strong password. It is about adding multiple layers of protection.

If MFA is available on your account, turn it on.
