Incident Response Process
Innocent A. — Cybersecurity Analyst
Just completed a hands-on Incident Response lab on TryHackMe, and it genuinely sharpened how I think about IR as a process, not a checklist.
The lab walks through a real cryptominer infection scenario across all 4 phases of the NIST IR Framework:
🔵 Preparation — building the capability before the fire starts
🔍 Detection and Analysis — identifying the threat and scoping the damage
🛡️ Containment, Eradication and Recovery — killing the process, pulling the persistence key, restoring operations
📋 Post-Incident Activity — closing the loop so the next cycle is better
What made it click for me: incident responders are typically thrown into phase 2, mid-emergency, with pressure to move fast. The discipline is staying methodical anyway, documenting everything, because your future self (and your team) will thank you.
I recorded the full lab walkthrough live. Dropping it soon.
If you're building out your IR fundamentals, the room is linked below 👇
