☸️ Cloud Security Architecture Check: How a single Kubernetes YAML file can hand over control of an entire GCP organization.
Varonis just documented a massive "confused deputy" flaw where a Kubernetes user with limited privileges can escalate execution authority across the entire cloud hierarchy.
How? By exploiting the structural handoff pathways granted to the Google Kubernetes Config Connector.
This is a classic Emergent Trust Boundary Violation (ETBV). The Kubernetes container environment is supposed to be isolated from the global cloud organization layer. But because the architectural handoff between the two trust zones fails to enforce strict privilege containment, a minor configuration injection chains upward to cause a total system compromise.
We have to stop assuming that separate cloud components inherently isolate themselves.
Security architects must enforce continuous validation right at the data transit boundary. If an identity or transaction attempts a cross-zone mutation without matching rigid, lower-layer cryptographic continuity rules, the execution must be denied natively.
If you don't secure the boundaries between your containerized logic and your cloud identity layers, your isolation profiles are just an illusion. 🌐
