N-central Security Update - August 1, 2026 - N-able
Nikki W. — Cybersecurity is not just technical, it is human | Protecting people, businesses & resilience
N-able has disclosed active exploitation of a vulnerability affecting on-prem N-central deployments running versions prior to 2026.2 (CVE-2026-18556). Attackers gained remote admin access, used the platform's remote-control features to move into managed environments, then planted persistence via rogue tunnel services.
This is not a story about one vendor, it is a story about all of us. RMM and remote-management platforms are high-value targets precisely because of the access they have built to have. Any tool in that category is worth this same scrutiny.
If you or your MSP run N-central, the priority actions are clear:
✅ Patch to the latest version immediately
✅ Enforce MFA everywhere, no exceptions
✅ Audit user access and privileges regularly
✅ Monitor for unusual activity, especially around remote-access tools
Incidents like this are a good prompt to check your own basics are covered, wherever in the world you are based. Patching windows, access reviews, and monitoring are not glamorous, but they are what stands between a contained incident and a full breach.
