30 years ago, I was at my first duty station (U.S. Army). Cybersecurity and installation network and system administration weren't even a thing. I remember working under my company's leadership and setting up my first HQ network using DSL with simple firewalls. It was an interesting experience. Of course, because there were no restrictions, policies, or procedures, whenever we had downtime, my CO, XO, and I would play Command & Conquer Red Alert over the LAN. These were simpler times. Today, I look at all the various areas of cybersecurity and am excited about the opportunities for learning, hobbies, and work. Although, sometimes, I miss those simpler days.
