When Everything Came Back Online... The Organization Wasn't the Same
Imagine an organization that has just recovered from a major incident.
For days, the team worked around the clock. Systems were restored. Applications responded normally. Communications resumed. From a technology perspective, recovery seemed complete.
Yet while IT celebrated restoring operations, some customers had already moved to competitors. Key employees had left. Decisions made during the crisis had permanently changed the organization's direction.
Everything was working again.
But the organization wasn't the same.
That raises a question we rarely ask in business continuity.
What does it really mean to recover?
If every system is restored, but trust, competitive position, or organizational identity has changed, have we truly recovered?
Perhaps business continuity is not only about restoring operations.
It is about preserving what allows an organization to remain itself.
