Feels like I’m doing nothing but incidents recently.
They say life is the thing that happens while you are making other plans….
Incidents are the things that occur while you are building the strategy and trying to implement it.
You cannot be in a response role and deliver projects.
Plan your teams appropriately and don’t give responders big projects that their bonus relies on.
Pleased to say that while the latest incident didn’t start well - conflagration of disparate events leading to erroneous conclusions…. But a good gold silver bronze strategy was implemented and was seen working in practise which made all the difference between chaos and clean lines of comms and responsibilities, determining root cause and actual impact.
Finally seeing it in action outside of an exercise was a joy to behold.
My days plan was still ruined, but ended with a massive win.
And proof that Incident Management works.
Even when it turns out not to be an incident at all.
It was, of course, the developers fault… (or a miscommunication between development, pipelines and infrastructure teams)
